What is URL?

URL is a technical term for web address. It stands for Uniform Resource Locator.

Scenario:

  • Let us say you want to check your email.
  • You make sure you are connected to the Internet and fire up your browser.
  • You then enter the address of your email account in the address bar of the browser and hit Enter key.
  • If the address is valid, you will be looking at the login screen of your email account page.
  • The address may point to a website also, or any resource on the Internet for that matter.

Example:
Google email account – http://mail.google.com
A website address – http://www.apple.com

What you need:
A web browser and Internet connection if you want to surf the web.

Note: Any resource on the web has a unique identifying address.
